Natasha Després
Founder of Equilibrium Mental Health Advocacy, I am an embodied leader in the public service.
Who Am I?
I am a dedicated mental health advocate who was diagnosed with a mental disability at the age of 23. In 2001, I endured the profound loss of my triplets and survived a domestic abusive relationship. Traumatic experiences that led to my first psychotic episode in 2002. Following my hospitalization, I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder Type I. Since then, I have navigated life with generalized anxiety and panic attacks. Over the years, I have experienced manic and psychotic episodes, some of which required short-term hospitalization in a psychiatric ward.
Sharing My Story
In 2007, I made the pivotal decision to share my story and raise awareness about mental health within my community and workplace. By openly discussing my diagnosis and struggles, I aim to shine a light on mental health issues, inspire hope, and provide support to others affected by mental disorders or those with loved ones who are struggling. My transparency has had a profound impact on my colleagues and peers, fostering understanding and empathy.
Mental Health Champion
For over 15 years, I have been championing and leading mental health and well-being awareness initiatives within my organization, the public service, and my community. My efforts are driven by a deep commitment to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and promoting a culture of acceptance and support.
Embodied Leader
In addition to completing leadership training within the public service, I hold an Embodied Leadership certification. This holistic approach integrates intuition, heart, body, and mind to lead with authenticity and compassion. I have mentored and supported many individuals through challenging times using this approach, helping them find resilience and balance.
